“Hi everyone! My name is Mary Kay Carter, and I wanted to share a story that’s really close to my heart. In late November 2022, I tore my ACL along with another ligament in my knee while playing pickleball. It was a pretty rough injury—let’s just say I messed it up pretty badly.

Fast forward to March 6, 2023, when Dr. David Moore performed surgery to repair my ACL, clean out some arthritis, and take care of a few other things my knee needed. Honestly, the details escape me now, but what I remember vividly was the goal we set from the beginning: to have me climbing a mountain in Africa in August to see the gorillas.

And guess what? On August 21, 2023, I did it! I hiked that mountain! As if that wasn’t impressive enough, the gorillas decided to move on us that day, turning what should have been a 1-1.5 hour hike into a 4.5-hour adventure up and down the mountain! The last picture I’ll attach shows a red line marking our intense route.

One of my favorite moments was captured in a photo with my guide, where she’s holding a bag. Inside that bag? My knee brace. I didn’t need it, but it was there just in case. The first picture shows just how close I got to the gorillas—it was an absolutely awesome experience.

None of this would have been possible without the expert surgery and rehabilitation I received from Elite. I’m so grateful for their care and support in helping me achieve this incredible goal!”
